Experience the thrill of tracking Africa’s Big 5, namely: Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino and Leopard.
Choose from either dawn or dusk departures, exploring on open safari vehicles with experienced guides. Their knowledge will astound you and their experience in the bush makes them ideally suited to search for your perfect photo opportunity.
Whilst sightings arent gauranteed due to the shere size of the reserve, you will undoubtedly have a great time learning about whichever animals you do come across and the thrill of managing to spot one of the Big 5 is unrivalled.
Kruger Park Day Trip
A Kruger Park Day trip is a must experience activity. With early morning starts to enter the park in the golden hours and only leaving the park in the late afternoon you will have the best chance of spotting not only the Big 5 but also any of the other species that make up this amazing reserve.
Your experienced guide will follow various routes and have keen eyes for spotting wildlife from birds and reptiles to the many antelope species and carnivores including more rare sightings such as wild dog, hyena and others.
Enjoy a mid-morning breakfast at one of the scenic picnic spots in Kruger before embarking on your journey through the park again. a Lunch stop is also provided at one of the rest camps in Kruger however lunch is not included.
Finally after a long and hopefully very rewarding day you head back towards Thornhill for a hearty dinner around the fire where your can reminisce about the day and enjoy the evening under the stars.
Pro tip: Take a warm jacket on the drive as the early mornings and late afternoons can become very chilly on the game drive vehicle, even in summer.
Guided Nature Walks
Start your day off early with a casual, yet fun and informative guided walk through the bush.
These walks are suited for the entire family,as the reserve is not occupied by dangerous game, and are focussed on getting you closer to nature, learning about the smaller animals and insects, their complicated living habitats and even some animal tracking.
You might get up close and personal with a variety of herbivores including Giraffe, Zebra, Antelope and many more.
Panorama Day Tour
Enjoy a scenic drive along the Drakensberg Escarpment as you meander through the Panorama Route.
This route features beautiful scenery including the famous God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and a great variety of Waterfalls.
There are various stops along the way either for the picturesque views, excellent photo opportunities and also for cultural elements of the nearby communities.
The Three Rondavels are always a highlight with its amazing views of the three rounded mountain tops of the Blyde River Canyon, considered to be amongst the deepest in the world and also arguable the largest green canyon in the world.
Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Cheetah Project)
The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Cheetah Project) focusses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable or endangered animals. Cheetah conservation is one of their core disciplines.
There are curretnyl less than 10, 000 cheetahs worldwide, placing them on the endangered species list. The Long term goal of the cheetah project is to replenish the wild cheetah population as well as reduce inbreeding and subsequent sterility of the cheetahs.
There is a variety of other endangered animals also at the Centre which you can view close-up and gain more in depth knowledge of these animals and their plight for survival.
Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre
At Moholoholo you will find a variety of different animals which have been injured or poisoned and which cannot be released back in to the wild due to their injuries.
Whilst the goal of Moholoholo is to rehabilitate and release as many animals as possible this is very often simply not possible, thus you fill encounter some permanent residents at Moholoholo which reside there at the centre’s own cost and they are considered the ambassadors of the centre.
Due to this members of the public are able to get up close and personal to animals such as cheetah while the centre gets the chance to educate the public and practically demonstrate the issues faced by wildlife.
